Image quality can be sacrificed for better responsiveness, but you can't have both. Way better than Chrome RD (both in terms of image quality and input lag), but slightly worse image quality than Parsec and noticeably more lag. Heavy compression, choppiness galore, unimpressive CPU usage considering how it looks and feels. If they were using the GPU, they would have shown up as DaVinci Resolve does:Ĭhrome Remote Desktop : absolute dogshit. as you might have noticed: none of them are showing up in GPU% column. Parsec appears to be the worst out of the gate, 25% CPU for a mostly static image and ok-ish 240 MB of RAM.īut, unlike the other two, once I start moving stuff on the screen it doesn't go above ~51%.įinally to give you an answer regarding the part I quoted. Starts great, just ~7% CPU and ~300 MB of RAM.īut again, as soon as stuff starts moving stuff on the screen CPU usage increases, all the way up to ~145%. It starts off fine, using just ~12% CPU and ~200 MB of RAM, while displaying a mostly static image.Īnd when window animations start happening / I drag the window around it goes up to ~70%. (in case your browser refuses to play HEVC video, click on 3 dots -> download -> play with your media player) Since I'm home now, both the host (M1 Mac mini, macOS) and the client (Windows) are on the same LAN.Īlso note that CPU% scale doesn't go to 100% on M1 Mac mini, it goes beyond that since it has 8 cores. Monitor resolutions are QHD (both on the host and the client), but I've centered and cropped it to FHD, just in case your monitor is FHD, also there really isn't any point in showing you my dock and other personal stuff on the desktop I've recorded the following 3 clips for you, all recorded on the same client PC, using the same settings in OBS, recorded 60 FPS. And Parsec does look cool but it has a pretty hefty price for a service that doesn't really list where it has it's servers and is hardware encoding supported on macOS in the first place.Īnd is hardware encoding supported on macOS in the first place. The web client is absolutely required as I do not have permission to download 3rd party apps on my work PC unfortunately. Great picture quality and very low latency. IMHO it is miles ahead of VNC, Chrome Remote Desktop and AnyDesk combined. If possible, drop the web client requirement, give Parsec a try and just install client (Parsec) software where needed. Sadly with Parsec you can't connect to a MacOS host from a browser client (yet).ĪnyDesk does work on macOS and has a web client: īuuut, I doubt it would be any better than Chrome Remote Desktop. It is still in beta, with some features missing, but for me personally it has been working great. Parsec ( ) added MacOS hosting a while ago.
